Article:
The
paradox of Attraction
One of the hardest parts
of working with Attraction for me is to think, believe and act now
as if the thing/person/event that I want is already present, although
quite blatantly it is not.
Henry Thomas Hamblin wrote about this paradox in his book "Within
You Is the Power", written in the 1920's, which talks about the
unlimited abundance available to all of us. "One who realizes and
really believes that there is abundance and plenty for him, puts
into operation a powerful law which will surely bring opportunity
to him, sooner or later. Many however ruin their hopes by not knowing
that for a time they must live a kind of double life. They must
be opulent in consciousness, but careful and thrifty in actual practice.
The time will come when their means will largely increase."
So how do you maintain the 'double life' until the end point you
want is reached, knowing that if you don't, you won't ever reach
that point?
Solving this paradox is a lesson worth learning, because once you
do reach that end point, you'll no doubt already be on the way to
a new end point - you'll never stop having new desires.
How do you feel successful when you haven't got enough clients?
How do you feel loved and understood when you haven't met your soulmate?
How do you feel prosperous when the bills are mounting?
I know the theory and I'm discovering the practice - the theory
is, as I said at the beginning, you have to think, believe and act
as if what you want is already present. The practice is that I've
had to devise strategies and daily habits that support the growth
of my new beliefs and which enable me to think in a way that I know
is going to produce what I desire.
The first part of the trick is to learn not to react to what is
present in front of you, but to think in that moment about what
you want in its place. A challenge!
The second part can be done later, after the event at your leisure,
but is still a challenge. Knowing that everything that is presented
to me is a reflection of something in me, a mirror of my thoughts
and beliefs, my work is to make the time to bring those beliefs
up to the daylight and to choose to replace them with ones that
tie in with the manifestation that I want.
If you want to be a deliberate creator, you're going to have to
be prepared to be deliberate, and diligent and disciplined in your
creating!
I'm getting there, slowly. It takes time to build new habits, and
I've found it's easier to do that in some areas than in others.
With some people I still get hooked into reacting to what's in front
of me, the now, rather than focusing on the creation of my 'future
now'.
In other life areas, where I've been able to become more detached
from the outcome being as I want it, I'm noticing some amazing results.
The amazing results have shown up not just as the right opportunities
turning up just when I needed them, finding the exact 'thing' I
was looking for, or events turning out as I had imagined them, but
in how I feel most of the time. 'Struggle' is a word I used to use
a lot - life often felt like a struggle. What I wanted in its place
was effortlessness - and I can tell you, it feels good!
It's an exciting journey of discovery!
