Article:
For a successful Feng Shui business, watch out for this phenomenom!
I've
discovered a new word: Hysteresis.* It's a common phenomenom to
watch out for and take action against, otherwise it'll sabotage
all your best intentions. So what is Hysteresis?
This word Hysteresis is used in science to describe the process
where a material reverts back to its original shape once the force
that has changed it is removed, like an elastic band. To make
a permanent change, the force has to be strong enough and be applied
for long enough.
The same principle applies with us - how often have you found
yourself slipping back into old habits for a variety of reasons?
For me, it's often because I don't concentrate on really implementing
a new habit before I go on to the next new exciting project -
the payoff for doing it wasn't great enough or the cost of not
doing it wasn't high enough. Yet when I was told a few years ago
that I needed some painful and lengthy dental work done unless
I took action, I started flossing every night, and still do so
to this day without fail - the cost was high enough for me to
effect a permanent change.
If you want to make permanent changes or if you know that you
want to get different results, the only way to do that is to start
being and doing in a different way. You've got to build new habits.
To ensure those new habits stick and you don't slip back to the
old ones, think about this question: How can you find a way of
making the reward for sticking to the new way so great, or the
pain you'll suffer in some form or other for not doing so offputting
that you keep repeating the new behaviour until it becomes your
new habit?
Remember, to overcome Hysteresis, and make a permanent change,
the force has to be strong enough and be applied for long enough.
(Hint: if the vision you have of your "future now" is
attractive enough to you, that can be just the encouragement you
need - that is, once you've built the habit of focusing on it
regularly.)
Checkpoint:
What's one habit you would need to acquire to become truly successful?
Which one of your current habits is hindering the success of your
Feng Shui business?
What leverage (reward or cost) can you apply to yourself that
will make the new habit permanent?
(The
definition of Hysteresis* and its
application to our behaviour comes from Mark Victor Hansen &
Robert Allen's book "The One Minute Millionnaire".
An unusual mix of a novel on the right-hand page, and a how-to
book on the left, the novel tells the story of a woman who has
to have one million dollars in cash in 90 days so that she can
get her children back. The how-to pages show you how to acquire
that same sum through a variety of means. The book is a treatise
in how to work with Attraction to get what you want, and would
be worth reading if you're interested in Attraction, whatever
your desires around money. You can sign on for their free ezine
